Clad In Plaid

Hello hello.

Welcome to the brand spanking new Lippy Anne Designs blog!
I'm Vonnie, aka Lippy Anne (a nickname from my dad, inspired by my childhood pouty face!).

I look forward to sharing projects, plans and hopefully some tutorials here, once I get this whole bloggity blog thing figured out.

So let's begin in the middle, of a sew-along, that is.
I've been sewing along with season 7 of Project Run & Play here. If you sew, I hope you're sewing along too. This is my first time joining in and it's so much fun. Plus, it's great motivation to get some sewing done, be creative and share your amazing work!

This is week 3 of 4, and the theme for this week is "Mad About Plaid".
Who ISN'T mad about plaid??
Well, I am.

So here's what I came up with.

This is the Clad In Plaid look :-).

(And that sweet model is my little Pooka, age 2.5)

I thought first, for this theme, of  those pretty patchwork madras plaids and wanted to try something like that.
I have also challenged myself to spend $0 on this sew-along, so off to my piles of "cant throw it away, i might use it someday" clothing I went. I discovered 4 little boy's plaid shirts. Perfect.
Well, almost perfect - they didn't really coordinate too well with each other. Undeterred, I rooted around in my craft room drawers and came upon some red fabric dye!
So the shirts took a quick bath and agreed to coordinate with each other.
I then spent a couple of evenings with the stitch ripper taking tiny shirts apart and cutting squares.
The squares were sewn together to create the fabric, which I cut the pants from, along with a bodice for the top.
Back to my aforementioned pile, I found a men's grey dress shirt (XXL - good amount of fabric), and used that to finish the top. I even managed to get some bias binding out of it for the neck and armholes!

I kept the original shirt hem, turning the opening to the back, and changed out the buttons for some cute red ones.
I'm pretty pleased with it, though next time I'll make the pants bigger - this girl is growing like crazy!
Here are some more pics.

Look at that cute face!
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Have a great day!
